Window on the Past

Window on the Past-13 x 15″ metallic print, framed-originally $450, now $275

Keep on Rolling – 10 x 13 metallic print, originally $450, now $275

My dad designed rings and he would often say that the right  setting was as important as the stone itself. I’d say the same thing about photos. The right frame can either enhance or totally detract from the image. For many years I had one of the best framers in Montreal. When Artex closed there was no where else that offered the same quality, variety, and affordability. It forced me to think outside of the box.  These two images are great examples of that.

Window on the Past was taken in Shaniko, Oregon a historic semi-ghost town. The old boardwalk boasts several small businesses that cater to occasional tourists who pass through. That day someone had parked an old buckboard on the street. I took a photo of it in a reflection in a window.  I decided to print it on metallic paper to make it shine like glass. Then I found an antique window, cleaned it up, and painted it white.  It’s the perfect frame for this image, but I will never make another like it.  One of a kind.

Keep on Rolling was taken the same day in the same town. The car was parked in a nearby field and I fell in love with the colours. I knew what I wanted to do, but I needed the help of a craftsman friend to do it. Using some rusted tin that I had found, my friend flattened the pieces, attached them to a piece of wood, and then built a beautiful pine frame around it. It perfectly compliments the image, but like the window  it is one of a kind, unrepeatable.
